 Custom Chairs

This seat was designed for a client with behavior problems.  The client would rock and bang her head against the wall.  Not surprisingly her caretakers were constantly worried she would injure herself.  So we built her a chair with a high back to protect her head and we put outriggers on the legs to prevent the rocking motion from toppling the chair. Later outriggers were placed on the other side as well.  The outriggers will rotate so the chair will fit through the door.  The seat depth is adjustable as is the angle of the back. It's very similar to our Commode/Shower Chair except the angle adjustment of the back is limited by toilet's water tank when the back is in the far back position.  Drop down armrests could easily be added.

This chair is very similar to the one above except without some of the bells and whistles. There are essentially no adjustable features.  It was designed to be used primarily as a shower chair for a single user.  It will go over a toilet. The shower stall has a lip and the door to the bathroom is quite narrow so the shower chair had to be as small as possible.  Due to the shower stall lip the chair must be tilted for entry and exit.  Therefore the back is high and the back is reinforced to take the strain of tilting.

There is nothing particularly unusual about this chair except the client had very exacting requirement on the dimensions of the chair.  While he was on a trip his wife pitched his old bath chair in the trash.  She says it was worn out but to the client the chair was perfect. The client said he wished his old chair to be duplicated. My wife would like to pitch my recliner out.  If she does I hope I can find someone to duplicate it.

This sketch and photo show our Elevated Chairs raised to 27" high.  Since the center of gravity is so high we have added outriggers that go outside the tub.  The outriggers can be rotated so they fit tight against the outside tub wall.  This is the maximum height that we feel comfortable in elevating our chairs.  We can raise our elevated chairs to 18" without outriggers.

This chair is basically the 142 Roll-In-Shower Chair. This chair has a 14 1/2" seat depth. We customized this chair so to make the base length about 9" shorter than normal. We were able to do this because the user only needed the back to be tilted 15 degrees. The shorter base length makes manuevering the chair easier.

Custom_Leg_Discrepancy.jpg (6111 bytes)

The user of this elevated chair has a leg length discrepency and a kyphosis and has sensitive skin. The caregiver wanted the user elevated as high as possible. This chair would not fit in a regular tub due to it width. It would probably fit into most showers. Notice the straps on the back. These are for adjusting the tension in order to accomodate the user's kyphosis. Also to accomodate the user's skin sensitivity we shortened the straps securing the seat belt.

 Custom_Double_Back_Brace.jpg (7066 bytes)

We added two back braces to this Roll-In Shower Chair because there is a lip on the user's shower stall and the chair needs to be tilted and lifted to get the casters over the lip.

Need a toilet support with something to hang onto? These armrest might be what is called for. They are height adjustable.  They are not designed to assist a user over 100 pounds to stand. Also they are pretty far apart - about 21".  Notice the Junior Toilet Seat Insert.
